Jake Morris will only turn 24-years of age next month but incredibly this is already the Nenagh Eire Og clubman’s sixth season with the Tipperary senior hurlers.

While he has contributed a lot of key scores in that time, his performance against Clare on Sunday was arguable his coming of age one at this level, scoring 2-4 and also won the second half penalty converted by Jason Forde.

Unsurprisingly, he was named man of the match with Nenagh man happy to get off to a winning start.

“We were delighted to come out with the points,” he began.

“We struggled last year, and we had gone six games without winning a championship match and for a county like Tipperary that isn’t good enough.

“We have had a hard pre-season, all gearing up to today and the next couple of weeks so we’re just happy to win.

“We knew what to expect coming down here to play Clare, they are a really hard team to play anywhere but especially here, it’s a tough place to come and they don’t get turned over here too often.

“But this is only the start of it. We have to get ready for Cork in two weeks’ time.
