FBD Insurance County Championships
From Tipperary GAA Scene by Jonathan Cullen, County Board PRO
The FBD Insurance county hurling championships swing into action this weekend with a total of 24 games down for decision. In the senior hurling championship, the action will commence on Friday evening at 7.30 with two games taking place. In FBD Semple Stadium the 2021 county champions Loughmore-Castleiney get the defence of their title underway when they Kiladangan, while in Borrisoleigh Templederry Kenyons will be hoping to overcome a Drom & Inch side who will want to get back to winning ways following their mid final loss to JK Brackens two weeks ago. On Saturday Clonoulty and FBD Semple Stadium will both host double headers which are sure to attract large attendances. At 2.30pm in Clonoulty mid champions JK Brackens will be hoping to keep on a winning track but west runners up Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill will have different ideas. The second game in the west venue is an all mid Tipperary clash as Upperchurch-Drombane and Holycross-Ballycahill go head to head at 4pm in a game that both sides will really want to win and claim the local bragging rights as well as getting the very important points on the league table. The action in FBD Semple Stadium gets under way at 5.30pm with the clash of Toomevara and CJ Kickhams Mullinahone, both of these sides have met on many occasions down through the years and have always served up very entertaining games and Saturday should be no different. The second game in Thurles on Saturday is sure to attract a lot of attention as Thurles Sarsfields and Borris-Ileigh take to the field at 7pm. Both sides will be somewhat disappointed with how their divisional campaigns went and so will be anxious to get back to winning ways. Also on Saturday at 6.30pm in Templederry, Kilruane MacDonaghs and Moycarkey Borris will get their campaigns underway. This game has the potential to be one of the games of the weekend as both sides have been making steady progress in recent years. The final round 1 game in the senior hurling championship will throw in at 1pm on Sunday when west champions Clonoulty Rossmore and north champions Nenagh Eire Óg go head to head on the field of legends in Thurles. Again this game is expected to be a close encounter with little if anything separating the sides when referee John Dooley blows the full time whistle.
Action in the FBD Insurance premier intermediate hurling championship gets underway in Littleton on Friday evening as neighbours Killenaule and Gortnahoe-Glengoole go to battle at 7.30pm. On Saturday at 2pm in Borrisoleigh, the 2021 county intermediate hurling champions Moyne-Templetuohy will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing mid final display when they take on a Silvermines side who will also be hoping to get back to winning ways following their loss to Roscrea at the semi final stage of the north championship. At 3pm in Boherlahan, champions of the south Carrick Swan will take on north premier intermediate champions Portroe, while at 7pm in Bansha, Newport and St Marys get their county championship campaign underway. On Sunday there are three games taking place at 1pm, in Newport Sean Treacys play Burgess, in Toomevara Ballina play Thurles Sarsfields while in The Ragg Cashel King Cormacs and Clonakenny will be in action. The final round 1 game in the premier intermediate championship takes place at 7pm on Saturday evening in Cloughjordan and is an all north clash between Roscrea and Kiladangan and should be another highly entertaining battle.
In the FBD Insurance County intermediate hurling championship, there are two games taking place on Friday evening at 7.30pm. In Cahir Ballybacon Grange and Cappawhite meet, while down the road in Cashel west runners up Golden Kilfeacle will want to get back on the winning side when they play mid champions Boherlahan Dualla. Saturday evening will see three more games taking place, at 6pm Carrick Davins and Lorrha Dorrha will travel to Templemore for their game and then at 7.30pm Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickams play Ballinahinch in Kilcommon while in Templetuohy Shannon Rovers will play Kilsheelan Kilcash. On Sunday at 12 noon Borrisokane and Skeheenarinky meet in Boherlahan, at 12.30pm in Dundrum it’s the clash of Arravale Rovers and Drom & Inch, while at 1.00pm Ballingarry and Moneygall meet in Templetuohy.

Minor Hurlers Visit Tayto Park
Following their exploits on the playing fields during the year, the 2022 Munster and All Ireland minor hurling champions enjoyed a well deserved day out in Tayto Park last Saturday compliments of our sponsor Fiserv. The team and management travelled by bus and spent the day at the park before travelling to An Poitín Stil where they enjoyed a meal which was kindly sponsored by Louis Fitzgearld before travelling back home later that evening. We express our gratitude to Fiserv and Louis Fitzgearld for their wonderful generosity which was really appreciated by all concerned.
GAA clubs asked to provide emergency short-term accommodation to ease humanitarian crisis
GAA clubs are being asked to provide emergency short term accommodation for people seeking humanitarian shelter in Ireland.
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and the Department of the Taoiseach have advised that the current stock of short-term emergency accommodation is depleted and that shelter is required for a significant number of people from tonight.
What is immediately sought are large indoor spaces, capable of taking 100 to 200 camp beds. These spaces will be needed on a very short-term basis, for approximately a week, and ideally would have access to toilets and showers.
State bodies will provide all the catering and other supports that will be needed. There will be no costs arising to GAA clubs that provide their facilities and all issues around liability and insurance will be managed by the State.
If only smaller spaces can be offered, please do so as ever little bit will help this humanitarian crisis.
Any GAA clubs or individuals who are in a position to help should contact firstname.lastname@example.org
