Tipperary Clubs Draw

The first draw of the 2021 – 2022 season took place in the Dome last Friday evening and it was the first draw to be held in public for quite some time. This year the draws membership has grown once more and this is thanks in no small way to the hard work and commitment of each club coordinator. We thank everyone who have supported this year’s draw and hope you will have some success over the coming year. On the night the top prize of a Renault Captur and Racehorse named “Sean Hogan” was Maura Ryan who is joined with the Borris-Ileigh club. The second prize of a holiday voucher or €5000 was Sean Gleeson who is joined with the Boherlahan Dualla club, €3000 went to Pat Lee with the Holycross-Ballycahill club while Mary O’Rourke from Silvermines took home €2000. Congratulations to the four top prize winners and to all the other prize winners. The next draw will take place on Friday November 5th.

PwC All Star Nominations

The 2021 PwC All Star nominees were announced last week and Tipperary have received 3 hurling nominations. Cathal Barrett (Holycross-Ballycahill), Ronan Maher (Thurles Sarsfields) and Jason Forde (Silvermines). Congratulations to the three players and the very best of luck in the selection process.

Michael Hogan Festival of Football

The Michael Hogan Football Festival sponsored by The Friends of Tipperary Football commences this weekend and with almost 90% of clubs across Tipperary expected to take part the event will give all our young players the opportunity to showcase their football skills. One of the aims of the Tipperary Football Committee is to raise the profile of Gaelic Football within Tipperary and to maximise the number of opportunities for players of all ages to play the game. Of particular importance, is the need to continue to raise the standards across all parts of the county at juvenile level and ensure that all children get the opportunity and encouragement to develop both their own skills and an interest in and love of the game. Working with the County Juvenile Committee and Tipperary Coaching & Games Development the Tipperary Football Committee have come up with the following schedule and tournament guidelines:

U11 competition on Saturday October 16th

U13 competition on Saturday October 30th

These dates have been chosen to allow for the completion of the county u13 & u15 competitions in the 1st instance

Format similar to upcoming Feile & Peil competitions with each location hosting their own independent competition.

The plan is for each venue to host eight clubs with two groups of four etc. but their may be some flexibility on this in certain groups.

Teams will be graded as per feile/peil on a county wide basis but we will be mindful of travel distances where possible.

All participating clubs have now been issued with a full list of rules and guidelines and the list of teams and venues have also been forwarded to each club.

The following are the groups and host venues for this Saturdays under 11 tournament:

Bally Bingo Returns

The very popular and highly entertaining “Bally Bingo” hosted on line by Ballyporeen GAA Club is making a return this Saturday evening at 8pm. With over €1000 to be won on the night all participants have a great chance of bagging some cash. Registration can be done via clubforce or by emailing ballybingo123@gmail.com before 3pm each Saturday. There are also links to play on the clubs social media outlets.

Tipperary GAA Yearbook

The 2022 Tipperary GAA Yearbook is being compiled at present and the Yearbook committee is seeking articles and information for inclusion.

Clubs that have accomplished any unique achievement in 2021 are requested to send through an appropriate article for inclusion. Similarly, in another disjointed year on and off the field of play, it is most important that clubs record and document any charity or fundraising events they undertook. These events epitomize the heart and soul of the GAA in every parish and their community across the Premier County.

The Yearbook committee are looking to all clubs to submit any obituaries of their deceased members in the last 12 months. The maximum number of words for an obituary is 150 and please include the club name and the years also, e.g. 1939-2021, as well as his/her G.A.A. achievements and a photograph of the deceased person.

The deadline for sending information is Monday, 15th November. Please e-mail information and photographs which must be named to Tipperary Yearbook Committee at yearbook.tipperary@gaa.ie

Tipperary Warriors Multi Sports Club

Tipperary Warriors is a club for children from age 5 upwards with a physical disability. They train every Saturday in the Presentation Sports Complex in Thurles from 11am – 12.30pm. The club also welcome siblings to come and take part in the sessions. Their national governing body is the Irish Wheelchair Association Sport. The club was built by parents & volunteers with the help of staff from the IWA and started in 2017 with 6 members and have grown to over 20 members now.

The club is a multi sports club and over the years they have travelled to Cork, Belfast, Dublin, Galway and more to take part in Junior basketball blitz. Their aim is to focus on the ability not the disability of each child.

It is not all about sport though and in 2018 and 2019 the club ran very successful summer camps for their members. Here the children had a chance to learn to play the drums, go kayaking, play tennis, learn martial arts. The most important aspect of this club is fun.

The club’s members are a mixture of wheelchair users and able bodied. During each session all the children use sports wheelchairs, and their activities are adapted to ensure everyone can participate. The club’s wheelchairs were bought from the proceeds of very generous donations and fundraising for which they are very grateful.

Their members travel from all over county Tipperary and also from Laois to take part. It is a very important outlet for their members as it is the only sports club for children with a physical disability in Tipperary who might not be able to participate fully in mainstream sports. In time they hope to continue to grow the club and develop a club for adults as well as children.

The club welcome new members and if you would like to come along to a session or have any queries please contact us at tipperarywarriors@gmail.com or Teresa Grant on 086 150 5765 or follow us on our facebook page Tipperary Warriors Multi Sports Club.

They are always looking for coaches and volunteers if you have some time you can spare and would like to get involved please get in touch.
