Tommy Treacy Book

The hay was saved but...  fifty years ago...  1976.My book, written two years ago... The hay was saved but... The life and times of a Tipperary hurling supporter 1974-1986, recalls the adventures I had following the ups and downs of the Tipp senior hurling team as a grew from a young boy to adult. I was 10 years old in 1974, young enough to be a current Tipperary Supporters Club mascot for a Tipp league games. As I sat in the Ryan stand last Saturday evening, I thought back to a time over fifty years ago when I attended games with my late father DJ. in the same Semple Stadium. Tipp always played with great determination back then, with a lot of cutting, and no little skill... last  Saturday evening proved that nothing has changed... as we got the better of an excellent up and coming Galway team.Snippets from my book from the chapter on 1976 reads as follows...Moneygall won Dan Breen in late 1975, when they beat Kilruane McDonaghs in a replay 3-13 to 0-5.  Billy Fanning was the Tipp. captain for the 1976 championship. Tipp. played Cork in the Munster championship that Summer and lost a thriller by one point... 4-10 to 2-15.In spite of the senior defeat, our minors had a magnificent year.... winning the Irish Press cup, beating Kilkenny 2-20 to 1-7. The Tipp senior team fifty years ago lined out as follows...Seamus Shinners,Billy Fanning (C), Jim Keogh, Jack Dunlea.Tadgh O’Connor, Mick Coen, Noel O’Dwyer.Jim Kehoe, Seamus Hogan.Francis Loughnane, Tommy Butler, Pat Quigley.Seamus Power, John Grogan, John Flanagan.I have made a donation to the Tipperary Supporters Club for every book sold. My book is for sale in the following outlets... Nenagh Book Shop, The Bookworm Thurles, The Cabin Carrick-on-Suir, Londis Irish town Clonmel, Fitzpatrick’s printers Tipperary Town, and O’Mahony’s book store Limerick City. My book is also available on Amazon books web site. One of the really great Tipp teams... the team of fifty years ago that lost by one point to Cork, the eventual All Ireland champions of 1976.
