HARTY CUP / SCHOOLS
In a high quality and exciting Harty Cup semifinal at Templederry yesterday, Nenagh CBS got the better of Thurles CBS by the minimum on a scoreline of 1-18 to 0-20. The game looked set to go to extra time but a late John Doughan free got Nenagh over the line. Congratulations to them and commiserations to Thurles who will have won a lot of admiration for the courageous effort to defend their title. In truth, hurling fans were always going to feel sympathy for the loser of such a terrific game, whoever it turned out to be. Nenagh will play St. Flannan’s of Ennis in the final. Also on the schools front, and also final bound, are St. Joseph’s Borrisoleigh who defeated Coláiste an Phiarsaigh, Glanmire by ten points in the semifinal of the Munster Under 19 ‘C’ Hurling Competition (TUS Corn Risteard Uí Mhathúna). Congratulations to them.Another notable achievement was the victory of the High School Clonmel over Clonakilty Community College by four points in the Corn Uí Mhuirí Munster Senior ‘A’ Football quarter final. They will face Kerry opposition in Presentation Secondary School, Milltown in the semifinal. The High School now operate at the highest grade in both codes.
