Munster Minor Hurling Trophy

At a meeting of Munster GAA held last week, a proposal from Munster Council delegate Joe Kennedy on behalf of Tipperary GAA to have the Munster Minor Hurling Cup named the John Doyle Cup was passed. A new cup will now be presented to Munster GAA by the Doyle family in honour of their late father, ahead of the commencement of this years competition.

Lá na gClub 2024

Croke Park have announced that Lá na gClub 2024 will take place on Easter Monday, April 1st. Lá na gClub was first introduced in 2009 to mark the GAA’s 125th anniversary. As 2024 is a year of remarkable milestones across the family of Gaelic Games, it’s the perfect time to revive the event.

GAA’s 140thanniversary

Camogie’s 120thanniversary

Handball’s 100th anniversary

LGFA’s 50thanniversary

Every club throughout the Gaelic Games community at home and abroad is encouraged to host their own event to coincide with Lá na gClub or if suitable, across that weekend, and create an international festival of Gaelic Games colour and activity. There are endless ways to showcase your club and invite the local community in. The most important thing about Lá na gClub is that it’s inclusive and enjoyable for all.

Uachtarán CLG, Larry McCarthy, said: “Lá na gClub is an opportunity for our clubs to get out and do what they do best – showcase the fantastic work they do promoting Games and offering lifelong participation and sense of belonging to the communities they represent.”

The emphasis will be on participation, and welcoming new people to experience our clubs. In a year with so many milestones throughout Gaelic Games it is an opportunity for clubs to celebrate their existence in their local communities, so we encourage all our clubs and their local communities to Join Us and Join In. No two clubs are the same so no two clubs will mark Lá na gClub the same either. What matters is that we have an opportunity to show our collective pride and strength in the Association we are and the work that we do promoting games and supporting communities.

A hub for Lá na gClub can be found on gaa.ie/clubday and will be updated regularly to assist you in promoting your event. This will be supported by a national campaign that will encourage the public to seek out their local events and to Join Us and Join In. All clubs are asked to use #ClubDay #lanagclub and #GAABelong on social media.

Finally, clubs are encouraged to register their participation on gaa.ie/clubday to be in with a chance to win a special promotional package for their club.

Tipperary GAA Digital Calendar

The GAA digital calendar pre-populates supporters’ diaries with all of their county’s fixtures for the season ahead. The platform we’re using is Ecal, which is also used by Premier League, World Rugby, AFL, Celtic, Barcelona and more.

Tipperary’s League fixtures are live on the calendar and Championship, U20 & Minor fixtures will also be added as fixtures are confirmed. We want to encourage as many supporters as possible to sync their county’s calendar because it keeps them informed on fixture dates and more importantly, any fixture changes/postponements, delayed throw-ins or traffic issues on match day. We would appreciate your help in encouraging supporters to join and you can let me know if any queries on it.

The Tipperary GAA digital calendar is available at https://ql.e-c.al/3jt4aTT.

Second Level Schools Action

Congratulations to Nenagh CBS who captured the Harty cup in dramatic fashion last Saturday afternoon, when they defeated Ardscoil Ris with a last minute goal. The scenes of absolute jubilation at the final whistle were an unbelievable sight as players mentors and supporters celebrated what was a fantastic win for the school and one they will no doubt celebrate for the next few days.

Unfortunately, Clonmel High School suffered defeat to Blackwater Community School, Lismore in the Corn Thomáis Mhic Choilm final which also took place on Saturday afternoon.
