Dear Tipperary Supporter

Thurles Fresh Milk Santa Dash and Visit Santa Experience

From Tipperary GAA Scene by Jonathan Cullen, County Board PRO

A very large crowd descended on The Dome, FBD Semple Stadium last Sunday for the inaugural Thurles Fresh Milk 6K Santa Dash and visit Santa experience. To say that all involved in the organising of this event are extremely happy with how everything went would be an understatement. Tipperary GAA wish to thank most sincerely all those who came along on the day and contributed in any way to the fundraiser. We also thank those who could not make it to Thurles, but who did contribute to the fundraiser. All the funds raised will now go to the preparation of our underage inter county teams in hurling and football.

New Allianz Hurling League structure for 2025 ratified

At last weekends meeting in Croke Park, the Central Competitions Control Committee endorsed a new structure for the 2025 Allianz Hurling League that will see seven teams compete in Division 1A.

Currently Division 1 is comprised of two groups of six, and the 2024 League will determine which teams compete in the newly structured Division 1A in 2025.

The top three from each group will qualify for Division 1A in 2025 along with the winners of a play-off between the two fourth-placed teams.

In 2025, the two teams that finish bottom of Division 1A will be replaced by the top two teams in Division 1B which will also feature seven teams.

The 2024 Master Fixtures plan and relevant regulations were also approved today and will be released by the CCCC next week.

As expected, USGAA will compete in the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship in 2024.

Motions in the name of Central Council and it’s subcommittee were approved for consideration of Comhdháil 2024.

National Hurling Action Plan

The GAA Strategic Plan – Áontas 2022-2026 commits to growing Hurling as a key objective for the Association. The creation of a National Hurling Action Plan is designed to support this objective and expedite the growth and development of hurling across the country.

A National Hurling Action Plan Workgroup has been established and held their first meeting on Saturday, 2nd December. The Workgroup is chaired by Colm Nolan of Maynooth GAA and includes personnel from all tiers of hurling. To understand the challenges facing hurling, it is imperative that the Workgroup is made up of players, administrators, coaches and staff from counties from across hurling and includes representation from the Camogie Association.

Following on from the first meeting of the Workgroup on Saturday, a survey has been created to allow all those interested in the game to have a say on how hurling might be grown and developed. Responses will be factored into the key goal of agreeing a three-year action plan for the growth of the game.

he purpose of the Hurling Development Plan Workgroup is to facilitate the formulation of a three-year action plan to sustain and grow Hurling in line with the overarching vision and goals set out in the GAA Strategic Plan – Áontas 2022-2026 and in accordance with the following terms of reference:

Conduct a review of the findings and recommendations of previous plans, reports, action statements on the game over the past 15 years.

Conduct a review and analysis of current hurling activity at Club, Primary, Post Primary, Higher Education and Inter-County levels across all tiers of the game – but with a special focus on the game in Joe MacDonagh, Christy Ring, Nickey Rackard and Lory Meagher counties.

Review the current Hurley and Helmet Scheme.

Consult with key stakeholders as required.

Work with Camogie Association identify areas/projects of common interest and cooperation for inclusion in the plan.

Explore and identify ways in which the Camogie Association, the GAA can maximise the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status for the games of camogie and hurling in supporting the implementation of the plan.

Produce a plan for presentation to Central Council on its findings, recommendations, and a roadmap for implementation.

This survey is open until Friday 15th December at 5pm and can be accessed via the GAA website.
